Nobody plans for a bang and broken glass on an ordinary Tuesday. But what you do in the first hour after a non-fault accident shapes everything that follows — the repairs, the replacement car, and any compensation you may be entitled to.
1. Safety first, then details
Check on everyone involved and call 999 if anyone is hurt or the road is blocked. Then swap details with the other driver: name, phone number, registration, insurer if they know it. Stay calm and stick to facts — never admit fault at the roadside, even out of politeness. “Sorry” has a way of appearing in insurance files.
2. Photograph everything
Damage to both vehicles, the position of the cars before they’re moved, the road layout, skid marks, weather, street signs. If anyone saw what happened, ask for their number — independent witnesses are gold.
3. Think before you ring your own insurer
You must tell your insurer about the accident, but for a genuinely non-fault collision you don’t have to claim through them — independent accident management often means a better repair experience and a suitable replacement vehicle while yours is off the road, typically recovered from the at-fault insurer. It can also protect your no-claims bonus.
That’s where we come in: recovery, repairs, keeping you mobile, the paperwork, and trusted specialist partners if you were injured. One call and the stress is off your shoulders — see Accident Management or ring 020 3355 8873.
